Position Summary:

The Department of Performing Arts at Missouri Southern State University invites applications for a part-time Adjunct Instructor of Theatrical Dance. We are seeking a dynamic, student-centered educator with professional dance and choreography experience in theatrical styles. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate dance courses and contribute choreography for departmental productions, depending on departmental needs and the candidate’s strengths.

Responsibilities:

• Teach one or more courses in theatrical dance styles such as jazz, musical theatre, ballet, contemporary, and/or tap.
• Choreograph dance numbers for mainstage productions (musicals or dance concerts).
• Collaborate with the Theatre and Music faculty on creative projects and performances.
• Mentor students in dance technique, performance, and audition preparation.
• Attend production meetings and contribute to the artistic vision of the department as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Dance, Theatre, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
• Professional or collegiate-level experience teaching and choreographing theatrical dance.
• Demonstrated commitment to inclusive teaching practices and student success.

Preferred Qualifications:

• MFA or MA in Dance, Theatre, or a related discipline.
• Strong foundation in multiple dance styles relevant to musical theatre.
• Experience working in higher education or with college-age performers.
• Familiarity with integrating dance into storytelling for theatrical productions.
