The Role

As a Career Coach , you will serve as a key learning and support resource for our Graduation Candidates (GCs), helping them master the academic and career-readiness skills necessary for graduation and post-secondary success. You will guide students through a competency-based blended curriculum while leading the development of Personalized Learning Plans and supporting them in achieving academic milestones, career goals, and college or workforce readiness.

Key Responsibilities

Enrollment

  • Support new student enrollment by participating in recruitment and outreach efforts
  • Assist in the implementation of GC orientation
  • Lead the development of Personalized Learning Plans (PLPs) tailored to each student’s unique goals
  • Guide students in creating class schedules to meet attendance and academic requirements
  • Assign courses in accordance with the PLP

Retention

  • Collaborate with support teams to ensure consistent student attendance and engagement
  • Actively participate in the Retention Cycle Protocol
  • Address barriers that impede student participation in the academy
  • Advocate for and support site-level incentive programs

Academics

  • Schedule, coordinate, and oversee all local, state, and national standardized exams
  • Develop and monitor post-secondary plans for students, including career and college pathways
  • Facilitate workshops focused on career planning, job readiness, and life skills
  • Support students in developing resumes, cover letters, and interview strategies
  • Assist students with college applications, financial aid, and career research
  • Maintain awareness of local workforce trends and incorporate relevant insights into student planning
  • Build partnerships with career pathway programs, including job fairs, shadowing, and internship opportunities
  • Provide academic and career counseling tailored to individual student needs

Advocacy

  • Stay current on employment trends and workforce development resources
  • Represent the academy at networking events and community functions
  • Participate actively in academy-wide meetings and planning sessions
  • Perform additional responsibilities as needed to support academy goals

What We’re Looking For

Education: Bachelor’s degree required, Masters' preferred

Certification: South Carolina educator’s license with a School Counseling endorsement REQUIRED

Experience: 3+ years of relevant experience

Skills: Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills; a passion for mentoring and coaching youth

Passion: A deep commitment to supporting high school-aged students who have disengaged from traditional schooling and empowering them to achieve academic and personal breakthroughs

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual (Spanish preferred)
  • Experience working in non-traditional or alternative education settings
  • Familiarity with ESE (Exceptional Student Education), ELL (English Language Learners), and behavior intervention practices
  • Experience in transcript review and understanding of graduation requirements
  • Proficient with technology in educational settings
  • Exposure to project-based learning, instructional coaching, competency-based education, or cross-disciplinary teaching
