SUMMARY STATEMENT:
This is a 10-month faculty position in Mathematics. The primary teaching responsibilities will include upper–level credit mathematics courses (pre-calculus and beyond). Faculty in this position may be required to teach courses like developmental mathematics, physics or other related courses divisions as needed to support the mission and needs of the college. This position will be located in the Mathematics and Science Division and will fulfill all responsibilities and expectations of a regular HCC faculty member. These include but are not limited to outcomes assessment, curriculum development, overseeing adjunct faculty and college service.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

• The Faculty, Mathematics reports directly to and is responsible to the Director of the Mathematics and Science Division.
• The Mathematics faculty will work with the Division Director, Mathematics Coordinator and mathematics faculty to continue to develop and maintain appropriate level of rigor and content in curriculum as needed for the AS in Mathematics degree for successful graduation and/or transfer to 4-year programs in STEM related fields. The faculty member will also work with faculty and adjuncts with teaching and assessment in credit-level courses in the AS degree sequence. The faculty will work with staff in the Learning Support center to provide instructional support and supplemental materials for students.
• The Mathematics Faculty will coordinate most closely with the Mathematics Coordinator and Mathematics faculty. The faculty member will also work with other College divisions (like Technology and Computer Sciences, Nursing and Health Sciences) and Community partners such as Washington County Public Schools, etc. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Faculty Duties and Responsibilities:

• Teaching: A faculty member is expected to prepare for and teach 15 credits per semester. Overload teaching is available for most Faculty and at times is strongly encouraged to meet student course demands. Faculty are required to hold a minimum of 5 office hours per week during the semester.
• Assessment: Faculty members are expected to assess learning outcomes at the course, discipline, program and college levels.
• Student Advisement: A faculty member should be able to advise students on courses, programs and career/transfer objectives (with support from Student Services).
• Student Advocacy: A faculty member should be committed to student learning/success. The faculty member should be available to help students as may be needed.
• Curriculum Development: A faculty member must be current in his or her field and transfer that knowledge to students in course content and teaching delivery, as well to curriculum updates.
• Recruitment and Marketing: A faculty member is a college ambassador with special obligations to promote his/her discipline or program to students and to the local community.
• Shared Governance: A faculty member participates in all levels of shared college governance, including departmental, divisional and institutional-wide activities.
• Professional Development: A faculty member maintains an approved professional development plan that supports the college’s strategic goals.
• College Service: A faculty member is expected to serve the College in activities addressing departmental responsibilities, and/or community outreach, and/or student and campus life activities.
• Community Service: A faculty member serves the College in voluntary community service activities that positively reflect the College’s image and is not in conflict with the College’s strategic goals or faculty responsibilities.

Essential Teaching Duties:
In addition to the regular faculty responsibilities listed above, the Mathematics faculty will: 

• Teach day-time, evening and/or online sections from the following:

1. • Mathematics courses: MAT 114 Intro to Applied Algebra, MAT 115 Quantitative Reasoning, MAT 116 Statistical Reasoning, MAT 160 Pre-Calculus I, MAT 161 Pre-Calculus II.
   • Upper-level mathematics courses: MAT 203 Calculus I, MAT 204 Calculus II, MAT 205 Calculus III; MAT 206 Differential Equations; MAT 207 Discrete Mathematics or MAT 208 Linear Algebra.
   • Other Courses as needed to support the division: Physics (algebra or calculus based); General physical sciences, engineering.

• Collaborate with Division faculty to develop foundation/curriculum documents for classes and oversee assessment of course learning outcomes at the program and/or course level(s) as required.
• Mentor/Supervise adjunct faculty. Duties related to this function may include (but is not limited to) book orders, dissemination of all relevant course materials/guidelines and requirements; classroom observations, and data collection.
• Collect common course assessment data for assigned classes and analyze according to division guidelines and completion of the Student Learning Outcome Assessment (SLOA) reports).
• Collaborate with college faculty when needed to redesign curriculum as necessary to meet the needs of programs and transfer pathways requiring upper-level MAT courses.
• Work with the Mathematics Coordinator to schedule and offer dual enrollment with high schools and 4-year institutions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

This position requires a minimum of a master’s degree in Mathematics or other closely related field. Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate documentation of successful teaching experience at the community college/undergraduate level (developmental through 200 level courses). The successful candidate must be able to integrate technology/software and computer skills with the mathematics teaching environment (CAS) and have an interest in mathematics across the disciplines, mathematics assessment and student learning outcomes.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Candidates should possess excellent written, oral and organizational skills with the ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, administration and community partners. Candidates should have experience with online course learning management systems (D2L, Blackboard, Canvas etc.) and online publisher-based learning systems (Pearson’s Mastering, McGraw Hill Connect, WileyPlus, MATLAB, Derivta, etc.) Experience with faculty advising is preferred.
