Job Description

Are you passionate about coding, social justice, and empowering the next generation of tech leaders? Join us as a Lead Instructor and help inspire youth to explore the world of computer science in an engaging, project-based learning environment!

About the Role

As a Lead Instructor, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality computer science education while fostering a welcoming and inclusive classroom culture. Using a structured, project-based curriculum, you will guide students through interactive lessons, helping them develop foundational coding skills and complete their projects by the end of the semester.

This is a seasonal, semester-based position available both in-person and remotely for candidates based in the San Francisco Bay Area. The role requires approximately 16 hours per week from June 5 to August 8, 2025.

Schedule

Instructor Training:

Remote instructor training: June 11, 2025 (10:00 AM - 2:30 PM PT)

In-person instructor training: June 12, 2025 (10:00 AM - 2:30 PM PT) in San Francisco, CA

Additional self-paced training (~8 hours) is required for all instructors.

Class Dates:

June 24, 2025 - July 31, 2025

Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays: 9:45 AM - 2:45 PM PT

Instructor Circle Meetings:

Mondays from 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM PT via Zoom (weekly team meetings)

Additional Dates:

Demo Day: TBD

End-of-semester meeting (30 minutes between August 4 - August 8, 2025)

Responsibilities

70% Teaching, Lesson Preparation & Student Support

Create an inclusive, community-driven classroom culture built on core values of social justice, accountability, and innovation.

Teach and facilitate three lessons per week, adapting material to meet diverse student needs.

Support students in developing final projects to be showcased at Demo Day.

Build meaningful relationships with students, fostering a positive and engaging learning experience.

20% Professional Collaboration

Work closely with teaching assistants, volunteers, and instructional staff to enhance the learning experience.

Attend and actively participate in weekly staff meetings.

Suggest and implement improvements to curriculum and teaching methods to ensure high-quality education delivery.

10% Communication

Keep students and families informed about class progress and achievements.

Provide regular updates on student performance to the Program Staff and Learning Manager to ensure personalized support.

What We're Looking For

We'd love to hear from you if you:

Have 2+ years of experience with coding languages and/or software (can include coursework, boot camps, internships, or professional experience).

Share a passion for computer science education, community empowerment, and bridging the digital divide.

Have experience working collaboratively on technical projects.

Are confident in public speaking and have strong communication skills.

Have experience working with diverse groups and fostering inclusive learning environments.

I am a self-starter who can work independently and adapt to different learning needs.

Bonus Qualifications (Not Required, But a Plus!)

Experience teaching youth in an educational setting.

Familiarity with project-based learning and culturally responsive teaching.

Bilingual proficiency in Spanish, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Arabic, Tagalog, or Samoan.
