Job Description

As Waterfront Director you will have responsibility for the overall coordination and implementation of waterfront activities that are fun, safe and appropriate to camper’s ages and abilities.

  • Create and implement waterfront activities, schedules, safety guidelines and programs including swimming, canoeing and other waterfront activities
  • Participate in lifeguarding, teaching swim lessons and general maintenance of pool and pool area; supervise daily pool opening/closing
  • Supervise and provide training to waterfront staff carrying out lifeguard duties, swim lessons and pool maintenance duties
  • Develop and operate a well-planned program of instruction in swimming, create free play and water safety lessons
  • Coordinate lifeguards and instructions for canoeing, on and off camp site
  • Conduct inventory, order new equipment and maintain existing waterfront equipment
  • Initiate a strict water safety program in keeping with Girl Scouts Safety Activity Checkpoints, ACA and the American Red Cross requirements
  • Assist in the general operation of camp as assigned by the Camp Director or Assistant Camp Director, as needed
  • Participate in campfire, all-camp meals and other camp gatherings. Provides high level of camper care and attention
  • Adhere to all council policies and procedures, observe all safety precautions and ensure compliance with all council health and safety rules and procedures
  • Perform other duties, as assigned

Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age, 21 years of age preferred
  • Able to work the full summer camp season - June 21st - August 13th
  • Ability to work with children and staff of different ages
  • Current Water Safety Instructor’s certificate and Lifeguard certificate from the American Red Cross or an organization having equivalent standards
  • At least two years’ experience on a camp waterfront or previous experience in management or supervisory position at a similar aquatic area
  • Previous experience working with children and young adults, preferred
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with campers, staff and volunteers; able to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Good judgement in anticipating and preventing accidents, quickness in emergencies, flexibility, recognize limitations and problem-solving capabilities
  • Must be willing to work in an outdoor setting and live on camp premises during the summer
  • Submit health history record prior to first day of work
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification, or able to obtain certification before the first day of work
  • Valid drivers’ license, proof of insurance and access to reliable transportation (Daily and/or occasional travel may be required. Must be comfortable driving narrow, winding mountain roads with passengers in mini or cargo vans)
